Looking Forward to Year 26

With my 25th year in the rearview mirror, I look toward year 26 with hope and excitement, another year set for challenge and opportunity.  As I outline my goals for the year, I’ll be referencing back to my goal framework where I explore creating values, setting Big Hairy Audacious Goals, utilizing goal evolution, and building a team.

Relationships

In “Man’s Search for Meaning”, Viktor Frankl, defines meaning through ”experiencing something or encountering someone.”  I strive every day to create meaningful relationships that will leave a lasting impact and empower everyone around us to be better.

  • Marry my best friend on September 5th, 2020.

Community

The world has invested so much in me through the communities that I am a part of.  This investment inspires me to “pay it forward,” reinvest in those around me, and develop my own community.

  • Invest over 300 hours into my community and the people that have impacted me.

Mental Health

The cornerstone to the balance of the rest of my life.  I envision a mindset that empowers me to chase and accomplish my dreams.

  • Read 36 books.
  • Complete 120 pages of journaling.

Physical Health

A healthy and sound body leads to success in every other area of life.  According to the Greeks, sound body “is a part of balance that rounds out a man’s life.”

  • Run 1,000 miles.
  • Complete 20,000 push ups.

Education

The pursuit of knowledge opens up the world to countless opportunities personally and professionally.  I want to have the education to change lives and leave a lasting impact on the world.

  • Complete eight graduate courses with a 3.5 GPA.
  • Join a public health student organization at UAB.
  • Complete Spanish level 2 on Duolingo.
  • Complete German level 4 on Duolingo.

Adventure

Life is more interesting when you are having fun, exploring new places, and experiencing new ideas.  I dream of the opportunity to visit every country and interact with every culture in the world.

  • Travel to 12 new locations.
  • Try 12 new activities.

Professional

In “Good to Great”, Jim Collins uses the “Hedgehog Concept’ as a tool to identify what someone can be the best at in the world professionally.  This idea is created through finding the intersection of “what are you passionate about”, “what can you be the best at”, and “what drives your economic engine”.

  • Recruit a public health professional as a mentor.
  • Complete 52 blog posts about leadership, healthcare, business, and books.

Financial

I dream of financial independence so that I can reinvest my wealth into the world.

  • Donate 10% of my income.
  • Spend less than 10% of my income on “wants.”

Let’s get to work.

A guiding principle in my life has always been that feedback is a good thing.  I thrive off of feedback and will always believe that feedback is the breakfast of champions.  If you have any feedback on my goals or goal setting process for year 26, let me know!
